A community for traveling and working abroad is a Canadian-based community platform which gives tens of thousands of young people the opportunity to discover a foreign country and its culture, while being allowed to work through a work permit or visa. The platform guides users in their steps and offers free content to prepare and succeed in obtaining a work visa.

The whole world is your destination with Pvtistes

With the brand identity redesign, our assignment was to redefine the visual communication of Pvtistes and what they stand for as a brand. Their community is like one big family and as all good families, they are very connected and close. This idea was the direction we took when we created brand values and the tone of voice, before going into visual concepts.

Helping travellers get relevant information on the go

By opening a communication channel as a part of the website, the Pvtistes platform enabled the creation of an online community where users can share their experience and references. Pvtistes also wanted to create an app for users to have the best possible experience close to them at any time.

Challenges of a content-heavy mobile app

Pvtistes mobile app should offer articles, guides and thematic files to prepare for the trip, insurance policy while abroad, promotional offers for easier traveling, but also a chance to share your experience with the community, ask questions and get answers, discuss and share with other members through forums, articles or private messages. That’s quite a lot of content to be included in the app and presented to the users in a way that inspires them, instead of overloading them.

Information architecture and navigation planning

First thing that needed to be done was to analyse all the content types and organize it following a logical structure, to know exactly what we are dealing with. We wanted to provide the users with the best experience, so the next step was to identify core use cases based on what the users would mostly need in the app. After that was done, we were able to prioritize features and started planning the navigation, separately for the Android and the iOS versions of the app. The main feed is also organized as a summary of recent updates and news. Since there are nine important sections featured in the feed, we mostly used carousel views and card layout to fit it all on one screen, but keep it clear and obvious for the users.

Minimal UI design to put an emphasis on the content

We wanted to focus our users on the content and reduce unnecessary distractions as much as possible, while still not oversimplifying the interface. To achieve the clean look and natural feel, we chose a neutral color scheme with prevailing white and gray shades, and Pvtistes’ signature red color for highlighting details.
