Introducing the Design Book Club — diving into the pages of design

Are you a digital designer who's passionate about creating stunning visuals and innovative user experiences but struggles to find the time or motivation to dive into design books? Do you find it challenging to tear yourself away from the screen and immerse yourself in the written word? If so, you're not alone, and I've got just the solution for you!

I'm Paula, a Digital Designer from Bornfight, and just like you, I know firsthand the difficulty of carving out time to read while juggling our fast-paced, visually-driven world. However, I also understand the immense value that design literature brings to our craft, and I realized that a lot of my fellow designers want to read up more on the subject and deepen their knowledge.

That's why I'm thrilled to introduce the Design Book Club, an exciting and dynamic community that will not only motivate myself to read more design books but also (hopefully) inspire more designers to do the same. This project will include monthly newsletters about design, and live meetups every 2-3 months that will be based in Zagreb, Croatia — first one coming up in March, so stay tuned and 👉 register here!

My goal is simple: to bridge the gap between our passion for digital design and the invaluable knowledge hidden within the pages of design books. By coming together as a collective of like-minded creatives, we can turn reading into a collaborative and motivating experience. Through insightful discussions, thoughtful reflections, and shared perspectives, together we'll explore different design literature and enhance our creative thinking.

But the Design Book Club isn't just about reading; it's about nurturing our creativity, expanding our horizons, and fostering a vibrant community of design enthusiasts. We'll explore a wide range of design-related topics, mostly about user experience, but also from typography, branding and visual storytelling, all while encouraging one another to explore new perspectives and push the boundaries of our craft.

Everyone can suggest a design book, and we’ll vote to choose our favorite headlines that will be covered in the newsletter.  We’ll be meeting locally in Zagreb, Croatia to discuss the books occasionally — the meeting group will be fairly small, in the interest of simplicity and creating meaningful connections, but we plan to include different designers at each of our live sessions to welcome as many interested designers as possible.

The first book I decided to cover is the ultimate design book mentioned by almost every designer in this world, and written by the father of User Experience — The Design of Everyday Things by Don Norman.
